The development
Provincial figures presented on 3 September, as reported by The Laotian Times, put first-half economic growth at 3.9%. Tourist arrivals were just above one million, down 884,775 from the same period in 2025. The contrasting indicators show why economy-wide growth alone is an incomplete guide to hospitality demand.

MPAL perspective
Underwrite tourism investments using comparable local arrivals, occupancy, room rates and customer mix. Rising railway traffic and weaker provincial tourism totals measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable.
